Cheshire West and Chester Council | Connected People Team | Children’s Supervising Social Worker

🔎 About the Role:

Cheshire West and Chester Council are looking for a Supervising Social Worker to work within the Connected People’s Team based in The Portal, Ellesmere Port.

As a Supervising Social Worker on the Connected Peoples Team, you will safeguard and promote the welfare of Cheshire West and Chester’s Children by delivering a high quality service, keeping children’s wellbeing and safety at the heart of your approach.

Contracted Hours – 29.6 hours per week

 

💼 Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, assess, and approve foster carers and adopters, in accordance with statutory requirements.
  • Manage, supervise, support and develop foster carers, adopters and carer support workers, directly providing and/or facilitating training as appropriate in order to safeguard the welfare of looked after children and adopted children. To act in an advisory role to Grade 8 and Grade 9 social workers.
  • Independently manage and be accountable for decisions relating to an allocated workload of, including fees and expenditure, within individual and group priorities and county policies to ensure effective and appropriate outcomes.
  • Provide professional advice, guidance and support to other SSW staff in the management of their caseload, including allegations to ensure the effective service complies with legislation and standards.
  • Maintain appropriate records of work undertaken and carry out required administrative procedures, in accordance with national minimum standards and County policy to ensure that the County’s statutory obligations are met.
  • Undertake an assessment of needs including where appropriate a risk assessment and liaise with other internal and external agencies to ensure that the support given is appropriate and meets the needs of looked after/adopted children in placement.
  • Identify appropriate foster carer/adoptive placements to ensure an effective match (Family Finding).
  • Design, plan and evaluate developments in services and new ideas, by sharing knowledge about theory, skills and practice with other Social Services staff, professional groups and interested bodies to ensure that changes in service demand are effectively addressed.
  • Assess for and provide or arrange provision of post adoption support to adoptees and their families to ensure that national standards are maintained.
  • Appraise, train and develop staff under supervision to ensure that they are able to participate and contribute fully to the work and service objectives.
  • Prepare for and attend supervision sessions and staff meetings and make use of all available training and developmental opportunities.

 

✅ Requirements:

  • CQSW/DipSW or equivalent
  • PQ Child Care Award/BAAF Award
  • Must be registered with HCPC
  • Working experience in the field of child care, particularly with looked after children
  • Ability to travel across Cheshire
  • Eligible to work in the UK
