About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to become a Team Manager within a Protection Intake Service, where you will be co located with partner agencies. You will provide professional leadership as first line manager with day-to-day operational management responsibility for a team or teams of staff delivering front line social work services, whilst ensuring high standards of practice parameters and service provision are maintained. You will manage a duty system operating as duty manager having oversight of new referrals and child protection interventions. This will include participating and chairing IRD’s. You will have a significant role in the implementation and development of national projects including Scottish Child Interview Model ( SCIM) and Bairns’ Hoose. This will include the development of partnership working other agencies.
đź’ĽKey Responsibilities:
- Manage, supervise, and support team members to ensure an effective social work service is provided within the designated service area, in line with departmental service plans, priorities, and resources.
- Ensure that service objectives are incorporated into the team’s action plan and take responsibility for its formulation and review.
- Manage referrals and allocate cases according to agreed operational priorities, actively balancing new referrals with existing caseloads.
- Supervise and develop senior practitioners (where appropriate) and other social work staff, promoting professional development through induction, supervision, and employee development reviews to maintain a competent and well-trained team.
- Ensure high-quality assessment and care management/care planning using a person/child-centred approach, supporting staff to prioritise needs per local policies and procedures.
- Chair and/or participate in case conferences, statutory reviews, and other internal and interagency meetings as required by operating procedures.
- Manage the team budget, monitor expenditure within agreed limits, report performance to the Service Manager, and oversee costs of individual care and support packages.
- Ensure and supervise the timely transfer of cases within and beyond the Council, maintaining a person/child-centred approach.
- Ensure effective risk assessment and risk management strategies are carried out as part of needs assessments in line with departmental policies and procedures.
- Manage team systems for recording and reporting unmet needs for planning purposes and maintain accurate statistics and records for management information.
- Monitor and evaluate professional practice through quality assurance and audit frameworks, including regular audits of case files to maintain high standards of service and recording.
- Ensure immediate response to the protection of children and vulnerable adults by following departmental procedures and leading investigations into alleged abuse where necessary.
- Ensure that services and professional practices comply with statutory requirements, council policies, and procedures by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Use research on best practice to inform local policy and service development, providing leadership in sharing this information with practitioners.
- Promote and develop partnership working with health services, other council departments, voluntary and private sector providers, and service users and carers, assisting with contract and service-level agreement monitoring as a Liaison Officer.
- Take a lead role in working groups to support strategic development and contribute to relevant strategic planning groups when necessary.
- Implement the council’s personnel policies and procedures, including absence management, recruitment, disciplinary processes, health and safety, and complaints procedures.
- Comply with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice.
- Ensure the effective implementation of customer care standards and maintain systems for customer feedback and consultation.
 Requirements:
- Recognised professional social work qualification (at degree level or equivalent)
- Registered with SSSC or required to be registered on commencement of appointment.
- UK Driving Licence preferred
