About the Role:
Derby City Council are seeking a Child Protection Chair to join their team.
This role provides leadership in safeguarding practice by managing and chairing statutory and complex multi-agency meetings. It ensures that child protection work across Derby’s safeguarding partnership remains robust, compliant, and focused on achieving the best outcomes for children. The position also oversees the management of allegations against professionals and contributes to service-wide quality assurance and continuous improvement.
Contracted Hours – 37 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for the operation of the Child Protection Conference System in conjunction with the other Child Protection Managers.
- Take responsibility for co-ordinating and chairing child protection conferences and other meetings.
- Promote participation by children, young people and both parents, in accordance with the QA service strategy.
- Provide specialist advice and consultation to social care staff and other agency staff in child safeguarding matters, specifically to agree the need or otherwise for child protection conferences.
- Liaise formally and informally on a regular basis with CYP colleagues and all agencies, including the voluntary sector, to promote effective multi-agency working and ensure children are safeguarded.
- Advise in relation to allegations against staff, carers and volunteers on behalf of the LADO, co-ordinate these investigations and keep appropriate records.
- Advise and liaise with the Police and CYP staff over sharing of information on behalf of the CYP Disclosure Officer.
- Set up, monitor and participate in quality assurance systems to measure performance against agreed standards.
- Arrange and be involved in induction processes and staff training and development across the partnership.
- Report to the Head of Service Children’s Quality Assurance on those matters which may require a change of policy or attract media attention.
- Ensure effective communication to all staff through case discussions, written information and management meetings.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, training, discipline and appraisal of employees, including investigations into complaints and grievances as appropriate.
- Work with other Children’s Services Managers and the Head of Children’s Quality Assurance to set quality standards for services. This will involve planning, target setting and establishing standards which reflect good practice, policies and legislation requirements.
- Prepare necessary information and present reports for LSCB, Council, Department Management Team and other meetings as required.
- Participate in the implementation and operation of the complaints procedures on behalf of the Head of Service Children’s Quality Assurance.
- Work with information technology and associated systems and manage resources effectively and efficiently including their deployment and allocation of work.
- Understand and comply with the Council’s policies and relevant legislation including Data Protection, IT, Equal Opportunities, Environmental and Health & Safety in the performance of the duties of the post.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties within the overall function, commensurate with the grading level of responsibility.
Requirements:
- HCPC Registration
- Must have experience of chairing Child Protection conferences
- Eligible to work in the UK
