About the Role:
Leicester City Council are seeking an Approved Mental Health Practitioner to join their dedicated Children in Need Team.
Your role is to secure the best possible outcomes for Children in need of support and protection, and those looked after through the provision of high quality and effective social work services in accordance with professional best practise and service priorities, policy and procedure.
Contracted Hours – 37 hours per week (Full-Time)
This is a permanent role within LCC.
Key Responsibilities:
Supporting Children in Need
- Manage an allocated social work caseload of highly complex issues regularly featuring child protection issues and the Public Law Outline (PLO) processes.
- Make, and implement, judgements and decisions with autonomy on cases with high levels of complexity, risk, uncertainty and challenge with the oversight of the manager.
- Plan and implement interventions designed to address needs and reduce risk.
- Prioritise tasks appropriately and be responsible for own work.
- Liaise with partner agencies to secure support and services for children and their families.
- Lead on S47 (child protection) investigations.
- Manage/Chair a range of multi-agency meetings designed to monitor and progress Child Protection Plans.
- Keep contemporaneous records on work undertaken, maintain up to date casefiles and produce written reports.
- Complete legal documentation and file and serve legal papers where required.
- Provide expertise in Social Work Practice for lesser experienced workers by leading by example when practising and by assisting others with complex matters when help is required.

Service Support and Other
- Support the amendment of policy and procedure by identifying issues, proposing changes and updating guidance as appropriate.
- Actively participate in team meetings and present/lead on topics.
- Participate within monitoring activities designed to evaluate the impact of own work and the work of the service.
- Act as a source of reliable knowledge and expertise and advise colleagues and other professionals.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the local community and resources available to support children and their families.
- Carry out other miscellaneous tasks associated with the role.
Requirements:
- Qualified Social Worker
- Registered with Social Work England
- Full UK Driving License
- Experience of holding a complex caseload and undertaking Social Work with children and their families.
- Experience of undertaking S47 investigations.
- Eligible to work in the UK
