About the Role:
We are seeking a qualified Senior Social Worker to join our dedicated Mental Health Team at the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Contracted Hours – 35 hours per week (Full-Time)
To provide an assessment, care planning, monitoring and review service for service users and carers with highly complex needs within the Adults and Older Peoples Service
To undertake all types of safeguarding work within Adults and Older Peoples Service.
To ensure that all work complies with Council policies and procedures and that statutory obligations are met.
To take responsibility for maintaining own registration with the professional regulator (HCPC)
Key Responsibilities:
To be responsible to the Team Manager for:
- The quality, and prioritisation of own work and for alerting the Team Manager to any workload management issues.
- The adoption of own good practice and performance standards with respect to the College of Social Work Professional Capabilities Framework, adherence to Directorate policies, procedures, statutory responsibilities and agreed performance targets.
- To undertake any other work appropriate to the level and general nature of the posts duties,
Professional Leadership (PCF Domain 9):
- Contribute to organisational developments, and play a leading role in practice development in the team and help sustain a learning culture
- Provide supervision to colleagues as organisation determines
- Support others to manage and prioritise work
- To lead on specific areas of work including giving presentations internally and externally and represent the department, appropriate to experience and grade as directed by Line Manager.
To provide consultation, guidance and modelling of good practice to colleagues in health/ social care and across departments as appropriate to grade and responsibilities as directed by Line Manager - To undertake supervision of staff and/or students and induction of students and other staff members as appropriate to grade and responsibilities as directed by Line Manager
Relationships, working alongside Service Users, Carers and Families (PCF Domains 1, 3, 4 and 7):
- To ensure the safeguarding of adults at risk from abuse, neglect or exploitation by carrying out detailed safeguarding adults’ assessments/reviews in line with the Protecting Adults at Risk: London Multi-Agency policy and procedures to safeguard adults from abuse (SCIE Report 39). Attendance at court as appropriate.
- To undertake assessments/reviews of highly complex situations or difficulties facing adults/older people and carers including Choice and Control Assessments, Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interest Decisions.
- To ensure that Service Users, Carers and Families are able to exercise Choice and Control in relation to care provision by utilising external support planning provision.
Knowledge, analytical skills and judgements (PCF Domains 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7):
- To maintain an awareness of own professional limitations and knowledge gaps and seek advice and expertise where required to ensure safe and effective practice.
- To participate in Duty/Intake Systems as required and to be responsible for prioritising incoming work to this service in consultation with managers as appropriate.
- To keep up to date with legislative and service delivery changes in the area of the team’s specialism and to develop own knowledge and skills.
- To undertake all duties with due regard to the provisions of Health and Safety regulations and legislation, the Council’s Equal Opportunities and Customer Care Policies, and the New Technology agreement
Problem Solving (PCF Domains 6 and 7):
- To work in partnership in a creative and flexible manner using a range of social work methods, problem solving and enabling techniques to case manage high risk and resolve difficulties.
Partnership Working (PCF Domains 7 and 8):
- To meet with Service Users, Carers, Families, multi-disciplinary agencies and organisations as required to co-ordinate assessments and reports including presentations to relevant Multi Agency Panels.
- To contribute to the development of new initiatives, practice development, service improvement, policy and planning within the team and across agencies.
Case Recording (PCF Domain 7):
- To ensure appropriate recording in connection with work provided to service users, carers and other departments in line with Council procedures as required.

- Qualified Social Worker
- Registered with Social Work England
- Eligible to work in the UK
