About the Role:
Sefton’s Youth Justice Service is seeking a skilled and motivated Operational Manager to support the team for a period of 6 months with scope to extend. We are looking for an experienced Leader with experience of delivering high quality services within the youth justice system.
Contracted Hours – 36 hours per week (Full-Time)
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the development of the Youth Justice Service by managing a team of multi-agency staff delivering prevention, out of court, and court-directed work.
- Drive high-quality case management and interventions through strong management support, oversight, and performance management.
- Develop and regularly review a suite of interventions to ensure alignment with the needs of the youth justice cohort.
- Ensure the most vulnerable children are safeguarded through high-quality interventions that reduce harm to others, risk of reoffending, and improve safety and wellbeing.
- Represent the Youth Justice Service at Operational Partnership Meetings, the Youth Justice Partnership Board, and deputise for the Service Manager as required.
- Lead funded projects and develop the service’s prevention offer.
- Manage Youth Justice Service budgets through collaborative planning processes.
- Take responsibility for managing budgets for externally funded projects and contribute to external funding bids.
- Contribute to the Strategic Youth Justice Annual Plan, National Standards Audits, and the development and delivery of associated improvement plans.
- Develop joint working relationships with Children’s Social Care, Education, Health, Probation, and Police.
- Participate in regional and national forums to share best practice, review delivery models, and support cross-border collaboration.
- Assist with the review and development of policies and procedures relating to referral, assessment, and intervention, ensuring best practice across the team.
- Plan, review, and organise team workload to ensure deadlines are met and actions are delivered on time.
- Allocate cases and oversee interventions, ensuring performance targets and outcomes are achieved and evidenced.
- Manage conflicting priorities and maintain oversight of own workload.
- Take responsibility for how victims are supported and ensure restorative practices are embedded across services.
- Develop and facilitate service offers including chairing Risk Management and Welfare Meetings.
- Oversee Court Services and engagement with the Multi-Agency Threat Risk and Harm partnership.
- Lead on child exploitation initiatives and health screening, supporting access to activities that promote healthy lifestyles.
- Support school attendance and exclusions, transitions to Probation, Out of Court and Referral Order Panels.
- Provide support to victims and restorative justice services.
- Manage panel volunteers and develop the mentoring offer.
- Develop and support partners to deliver support services for Mental Health, Domestic Abuse, Substance Misuse, and Homelessness.
- Ensure resources are used efficiently and day-to-day operational matters are achieved.
- Recommend improved methods of working to enable efficiencies.
- Represent the Council as appropriate.
- Manage Court cover.
Requirements:
- Relevant professional qualification and extensive relevant experience within the Youth Justice Service
- Appropriate Leadership/Business Qualification or equivalent skills/experience
- Eligible to work in the UK
