About the Role:
Shropshire Council is currently delivering a strategic Single-Handed Care Review Project aimed at enhancing independence and reducing carer dependency. We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to carry out reviews of existing double-handed care packages and recommend practical, sustainable alternatives.
This role offers the opportunity to make a measurable impact on adult social care delivery by improving client outcomes and promoting autonomy.
 Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out 10 single-handed care assessments per week, in line with project expectations.
- Assess clients’ functional needs under the Care Act 2014, with a focus on promoting independence and wellbeing.
- Recommend and arrange appropriate equipment and adaptations to reduce reliance on multiple carers.
- Liaise and collaborate with the Adult Social Care team, support planners, and external providers to review and adjust existing care packages.
- Ensure all equipment ordered is suitable, safe, and effectively supports the client’s needs.
- Accurately document assessments, decisions, and outcomes in a timely manner using the council’s case management systems.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the project by providing professional insights and feedback.
 Requirements:
- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy and registration with HCPC
- A minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience in occupational therapy roles, with a strong focus on manual handling, equipment provision, and reablement.
- Must meet the 12-month MOC exemption requirements for the West Midlands.
