About the Role:
We are seeking a Case Manager to join our dedicated Youth Justice Team at Trafford Council.
Our Youth Justice service delivers high quality services to children, young people and their families to achieve the aims of preventing offending; divert children and young people from the Criminal Justice System and support those who are sentenced by the Court to either a Community Order or Custodial sentence. We are governed by the Ministry of Justice, through the Youth Justice Board and have a set of Key Performance Indicators, and National Standards. His Majesty Inspectorate of Probation is our external inspection body.
 Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage children and young people supported through Prevention services, Diversionary Interventions, Bail Support programmes, and Statutory Orders.
- Complete assessments of children and young people identified as vulnerable to antisocial behaviour or offending, using recognised assessment tools.
- Provide services to the Court, including verbal and written reports, bail assessments, and Referral Order panel reports; attend Court as part of the Greater Manchester Youth Courts Youth Justice Representative.
- Manage cases and deliver tailored interventions that address the risks and needs of children and young people, involving partner agencies where appropriate.
- Support children and young people sentenced to custody, including preparing them for resettlement by working in partnership with parents/carers, wider family, and statutory/voluntary partners.
- Develop and deliver individual and group intervention programmes that are evidence-based and aligned with the principles of effective practice.
- Maintain accurate, timely case records, including assessments, interventions, and case notes, in line with service expectations.
- Provide consultation, advice, and support to parents and carers—both voluntarily and under statutory parenting orders.
- Transport and escort children, young people, and their families when required.
- Act as an Appropriate Adult during police interviews to ensure compliance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act.
- Implement monitoring and evaluation systems for work undertaken, including gathering feedback from children, young people, parents/carers, and partner agencies.
- Work collaboratively with the Victim and Restorative Justice Practitioner, families, and partners to support the completion of reparation work and enhance community safety.
- Facilitate and attend Referral Order Panels and provide guidance to Community Panel Members.
- Participate in the office duty system as required and contribute to team meetings and wider service development.
- Engage with Trafford’s quality assurance framework, including supervision, EPIC check-ins, and ongoing professional development.
- Demonstrate awareness of disproportionality in the youth justice system and actively promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in all areas of practice.
- Undertake other duties as required that are commensurate with the grade of the post, including taking a lead on designated areas of work.
 Requirements:
- DipSW / Diploma in Youth and Community Work / Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) / Diploma in Probation Studies; or
- NVQ 4 in Community Justice or Youth Justice Studies
- Enhanced DBS
- Full Driving License Required
- Knowledge of youth justice, child welfare, and criminal legislation
- Eligible to work in the UK
